Job Description  

Job Title: FUEL Young People’s Facilitator FULL TIME POST

Based at: FUEL Quay Lane, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh

Responsible to: Project Manager

Salary: £1100 gross per month

Length of Contract: Post is funded by the PHA (as part of a Pilot Project) until July 2012 with potential to be extended for 3 to 5 years.

Hours of work:  30 Hours each week to include some evenings, Friday nights and Saturday afternoon work.

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the involvement of young people in the development of the services.
  • Provide advice, signposting, referrals and information for young people.
  • Work as part of a team to deliver  a ‘One Stop Shop’  for Information, advice, one to one support, workshops and signposting services for young people aged 11-25yrs on a range of issues from drugs and alcohol, sexual health, sexual orientation, education, welfare and legal, suicide ideation, mental health, wellbeing and resilience, self harm, and coping with school and employment. To engage the optimal level of peripatetic services into the centre, for one to one, workshops and training in relation to the above issues.  To engage young people with development, delivery of and participation in services provided by FUEL and FIND.
  • To continue to develop and manage the hang out space for 13-17 yrs/ time and band rehearsal / DJ training.
  • To help develop the entertainment on Friday Nights for 13-17yrs and facilitate young people’s involvement in design and delivery of entertainment.
  • Build capacity and market the project– in the community, including schools, churches community groups, in both public and private sectors, through innovative initiatives and via the media. Liaise with other organisations and work in cooperation to improve services for young people.
  • Ensuring compliance with child protection and other relevant legislation.

Information

  • Map services available to young people, locally, regionally and nationally, develop an effective system for referrals, and signposting to services.   Facilitate involvement of young people to any beneficial opportunities.
  • Collect all required participation data, monitoring and evaluation information as required by the Project Manager - and maintain base of records, needs, outcomes and achievements for evaluations and monitoring needs of funders and funding applications. Gather through surveys / consultation quantitative and qualitative data required to inform project planning.
  • Prepare written reports and data as required by the Project Manager, funders other relevant organisations.
  • Support the Project Manager in their role as required
  • Ensure compliance with obligations under The Data Protection Act 1998 (EU Dir 95/46)
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining the website reflecting the information and services of FIND and FUEL

This job description sets out the main duties of the FUEL Young Peoples facilitator role.  As the Centre develops the duties and responsibilities may change to take account of outcomes from consultation with young people, reviews or funders requirements.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

 Experience

  • Experience of working with young people in both small and large group settings and on one to one basis.
  • Experience of providing information and advice to young people
  • Experience of delivering youth work programmes
  • Experience of advocating  on behalf of young people
  • Experience of ensuring compliance with relevant legislation

 

 

 

Education Training and Qualifications

  • A third level qualification, in order of preference; a nationally recognised part or full time Youth Work Qualification, a qualification in Counselling, Social Work or other relevant third level qualification.
    • 3 years full time or 5 years part time experience of working with young people age 13-25 yrs
    • Willing to undertake further training as required

Relationships

  • Able to initiate, develop and sustain effective relationships with young people which are empowering, non judgemental, non critical, empowering and confidence building.
  • Ability to manage, lead  and motivate young people.
  • Ability to create a supportive and safe environment for young people
  • Ability to work effectively as a team
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with other colleagues and in other agencies and organisation
  • Appreciate the importance of confidentiality and work within such policies

Equality and Diversity

Skills

  • Ability to write accurate clear and concise letters, memos and reports using standard formats
  • Competent use of ICT for emailing, using the internet and WP for both and admin and supporting young people
  • To have good interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

  • Able to work flexibly – evenings and weekends
  • Be willing to spend some time building relationships with young people on the streets /park.
  • Be committed to providing for all young people regardless of gender, race, religion, marital status, age, sexual orientation, or ethnic origin, or youth sub culture / music genre.
  • Be able to develop relationships with young people which are non-judgemental, and non- critical but are empowering, and confidence and skill building.
  • Be able to motivate staff and young people to work together as a team.
  • Understand the critical importance of confidentiality.
  • Be willing to travel with young people on trips.

  • A waiting list may be      generated from those who are short listed and interview successfully for      future positions that may arise within 12 months.
  • The nature of the work at FUEL requires a flexible approach to work patterns and the post holder will be required to work evenings and weekends in order to facilitate the requirements of the role.
  • The post holder will be expected to attend and participate effectively in team meetings and performance management meetings
  • The post holder will be expected to continuously develop in their role and take responsibility for their own professional development in conjunction with the requirements of the management committee
