WAVE, a leading cross community voluntary organisation that provides care and support to those affected by the Troubles/Conflict in Northern Ireland wishes to recruit a Welfare Rights Officer to be based at 5 Chichester Park South, Belfast, BT15 5DW.

Hours:           35 hours per week            

Salary:           £ 22,050 per annum (under review)

 Job Description:

To deliver a confidential impartial welfare advice service to victims and survivors of the Northern Ireland Troubles/Conflict to include face to face (via centre or home visits) email or telephone.  To provide representation at Disability and Social Security Appeal Tribunals and undertake social policy work.

What you will be doing:-

  • Assessing the welfare needs of clients and making referrals internally or externally as required.
  • Providing assistance on welfare issues.
  • Maximising clients’ income by undertaking benefit checks, better off calculations and identifying other means of practical support.

Education, Qualification and Experience

The successful applicant is required to have the following as of the date of closing:-

  • Law Centre NI or NIACAB accredited Qualification in Welfare Rights.
  • At least 1 years’ experience of working in a welfare rights setting.
  • Experience of representing clients at tribunals.
  • An awareness of welfare reform.
