The postholder will work closely with operational teams to ensure that we effectively recruit & retain our volunteers in order to provide the best possible service to victims of crime. This role is responsible for championing volunteering best practice

Main Responsibilities:

 

    • Develop and maintain relationships with Service Leads and Coordinators to ensure volunteers are at the core of Victim Support NI service delivery.
    • Manage a recruitment and training programme, in conjunction with the Learning & Development Manager, which enables volunteers to deliver service in a timely manner without compromising safeguarding responsibilities.
    • Provide a central point of contact for prospective and trainee volunteers throughout the period of recruitment and training.
    • Advise, support and deliver training to staff on all aspects of volunteer involvement, enabling them to recruit, train, support and motivate volunteers effectively.
    • Develop and update volunteering policies and procedures and ensure developments within volunteering are communicated effectively.
    • Maintain ownership of the volunteer supervision policy and provide a quality assurance system for volunteer supervision. This will include working with coordinators to facilitate group supervision as and when required.
    • Lead and support staff in developing volunteer roles across Victim Support NI.
    • Develop innovative volunteer pathways which will improve the skills and retention of volunteers.
    • Develop an annual volunteer engagement plan in conjunction with the Head of HR.
    • Build and maintain external relationships to ensure that opportunities to develop volunteers are maximized.
    • Keep up to date with developments in volunteering practice to ensure that Victim Support NI is a lead provider of volunteering opportunities in Northern Ireland.
    • Contribute to organisational planning through the maintenance and reporting of volunteer management information.
    • Plan, negotiate and manage the Volunteering budget ensuring maximum efficiency.
  • Ensure the application of all policies and procedures of the organisation, and in particular those relating to Health and Safety and Equal Opportunities.

Person Specification

 

Qualifications and experience:

 

Essential

  • Degree level or equivalent plus 2 years’ experience of people management

    Or

    5 years’ experience of people management.

     

    Skills and Abilities:

     

    Essential:

    • Comprehensive understanding and knowledge of volunteering innovation, best practice and sector standards
    • Demonstrable experience of implementing a range of volunteering polices
    • An understanding of safeguarding in the context of protecting vulnerable groups
    • Ability to build and manage effective stakeholder relationships at all levels
    • Ability to work collaboratively and influence change
    • Ability to coach others and deliver training
    • Excellent planning and organisational skills which enable the effective management of conflicting priorities
    • Ability to collate, analyse and report meaningful management information

 

Additional requirements:

 

  •    The post-holder is expected to be competent in using Microsoft Office Packages (Word, Excel, Outlook).

  •   The post holder will be required to demonstrate the ability to meet the mobility    requirements of the post.

     

    Desirable Shortlisting criteria

  • A relevant qualification in volunteer management.

  • Personal experience of volunteering.
