Sight Loss Counsellor (Need to Talk Project)

Need to Talk (NTT) is a cross border counselling, confidence building and peer support programme for people with sight loss across Northern Ireland (NI), Ayrshire & Arran, part of Highlands & Islands in Western Scotland (WSc) and the Border Counties of Ireland (BCI). NTT is a partnership between RNIB (in NI and WSc) and Fighting Blindness (FB) in BCI and is funded via the INTERREG VA Programme.

The Sight Loss Counselling team provides emotional support, counselling and information over the phone and online to people who are affected by sight loss. Our client group is diverse with the majority of clients being over the age of 50.

This role will provide high quality time-limited counselling, emotional support and information over the telephone, online and limited face to face (according to clinical need) to people who are affected by sight loss, and to contribute to service development. A recent service development is the provision of counselling to children and young people. This role will include referrals from children and young people affected by sight loss.

This post is subject to an enhanced Access NI check which includes a check of the children's and adults barred list as the post holder will provide advice or guidance to children which relates to their physical and emotional well being and will provide counselling services to adults as a result of their sight loss.

Need to Talk is a project supported by the European Union’s INTERREG VA Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).

Hours: 21-28 hours per week (hours to be confirmed)

Salary: £22,439 per annum (pro rata to hours of work)
Location: Belfast
