Due to the ongoing success of our children & early years centre in Belfast, a truly exciting opportunity has arisen for a Programme Development Manager (Family Support) to join MencapNI. We have recently agreed a new strategy, “Our Big Plan” and within this have a focus on early years support for children with a learning disability and their families. Northern Ireland currently holds the organisational lead for our early years across Mencap.
The Programme Development Manager will be responsible for developing Mencap’s family support programme aimed at families with young children 0 – 5 years. Using an evidence based approach and work with teams across Mencap to agree and develop a clear service design and models to deliver a cohesive family support service.
Achieving this through excellent project and programme management. The role will include providing project management expertise, running significant projects, managing resources, colleagues and partners to identify needs and gaps, models that address these gaps and new projects that deliver to this priority. The successful post holder will be responsible for developing agreed ideas into workable models in consultation and collaboration with the Director NI, Head of Children, Young People and Families NI as well as colleagues in the early years steering group and statutory partners, whilst developing and maintaining positive relationships with the NI fundraising team to secure income for delivery of agreed activity.
Managing the delivery staff across NI family support projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with key internal and external stakeholders. They will work closely with Director NI and Head of Children, Young People and Families to make sure all projects are delivering against agreed outcomes to progress the Big Plan.

Key Skills & Experiences:
- Experience delivering and managing family support programmes in NI is essential
- Ability to build excellent relationships with stakeholders
- Experience managing, developing and motivating staff teams
- Great negotiation and problem solving skills
- Experience writing reports and briefings
- Knowledge of family and parenting support
- A project management qualification is highly desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
