Head of Marketing & Communications

The person in this role is a key influencer and an experienced marketer who will create and deliver a fully integrated and impactful Marketing and Communications strategy for Age NI’s Charity, Trading & Enterprise Divisions. 

(S)he will be a pivotal brand guardian and influencer within a leading organisation who will position Age NI as an authoritative commentator on older people’s issues and the ‘go to’ place for anyone needing advice and information on services & products to support  independence in later life.

The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Integrated Marketing Planning:

-       Using insight & research provide robust, solution focused support to Age NI Teams to devise and deliver integrated and creative marketing strategies, propositions, products and campaigns to support Age NI’s KPIs around awareness, engagement and relevance.

-       Ensure the right culture, skills, knowledge; experience and training are in place to deliver our brand and marketing strategy.

  • Departmental Management:

-       Manage the Communications and Digital Team

-       Identify appropriate departmental resource;

-       Develop,  deliver and monitor departmental operational plan; business continuity plan and risk register;

-       Provide regular reports on KPIs;

-       Manage the day-to-day creative and media relationships to ensure delivery of media plans and marketing collateral on time and on budget. 

-       Ensure adherence to all AMH policies and procedures

  • Brand Guardianship: 

-       Protect the Age NI brand and ensure all divisions and agencies have correct knowledge to uphold it.

  • Communications:

-       Increase and measure awareness of Age NI’s work through the delivery of compelling content across appropriate external, internal and digital channels to key audiences. 

  • Public Relations:

-       Act as a spokesperson for Age NI at events and on regional and local media; manage PR opportunities through professional, timely and accurate content.

  • Digital:

-       Drive growth in digital and social media and optimise existing and new platforms.

-       Maintain CRM database in accordance with Data Protection Act requirements.

-       Ensure all staff adhere to Age NI’s digital and social media policies and guidelines.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

-       Manage effective stakeholder relationships across NI, inclusive of older people, age sector groups, funders, statutory bodies, corporates and the Age UK network.

  • Corporate Sponsorship:

-       Develop and manage corporate partnership strategies and sponsorship programmes aligned to the Age NI brand. 

  • Event Management:

-       Support / Co-ordinate event management.

  • Research & Development:

-       Devise and commission brand & customer research where appropriate and develop plan to implement findings.

Applicants must have:

  • Experience of integrated marketing planning to include: developing integrated  marketing and communications strategies; managing PR, editorial, print, design and of running campaigns ‘through the line’ (i.e. Radio, Press, TV, POS, online etc);preparation, monitoring and control of annual budgets
  • Digital: Delivering campaigns in (multiple) digital channels, strong knowledge in at least one digital channel an advantage
  • Public Speaking: Presenting at Senior Management / Director  level and on National Broadcast Media with a track record of successfully influencing and gaining the respect of peers at that level
  • Marketing:  An understanding of the principles and application of brand, marketing and communications in supporting the organisation’s achievement of its goals and objectives.
  • Charity: Awareness of the issues relevant to working in the charity/ not-for-profit sector
  • Public Affairs: Awareness of the political & social care and local government landscape impacting on older people in NI
  • Leadership: both in a  line management  context but also in cross-functional project groups where influencing skills are as important as direct reporting relationships
  • Business: Strong business acumen and analytical skills; ability to  identify communications gaps and to design, develop and deliver appropriate solutions to meet these
  • People  & Project Management: Excellent planning skills, experience of managing  people, teams and multiple projects at one time; plus  ability to plan and prioritise own and team workload to meet deadlines.
  • Relationship Development: Evidence of strong senior stakeholder, customer engagement and supplier management skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of external stakeholders across the age network.
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, conveying information accurately and persuasively; evidence of public speaking and media presentation skills.
  • Digital IT Skills: Ability to professionally produce a range of communications and reports using Word, Excel; PowerPoint and Publisher and to manage social media.
  • Third level qualification in a relevant discipline e.g. Communications, PR, Marketing or equivalent
  • Full current driving licence and access to a car for business purposes or access to a form of transport to meet the travel requirements of the post
  • Flexible approach as week-end and evening work may be required

What we can offer you:

  • Salary Scale £37,175 - £39,076
  • Hours: 35 hours Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm, with flexible working policy.
  • Annual Leave: 26 days plus 12 Bank Holidays
