Your New Role

The Deputy Finance Manager will assist the Finance Manager to manage and develop the Finance Department ensuring that all activities and functions of the Department are aligned with organisational priorities in order to deliver our Mission:

“Positive Futures for people with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or autistic spectrum condition – working together to achieve dreams and transform lives”

The role requires an experienced, confident and professional practitioner who will have an immediate impact across our Organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts and process end transfers, journals and adjustments (including accruals, prepayments and depreciation)

  • Prepare annual budgets and cash flow analysis taking account of information provided by Services and Departments

  • Oversee purchase ledger processing and ensure purchase invoices / debts are paid in a timely manner

  • Review and approve bank reconciliations and other control account activities

  • Review credit control on debtor’s ledger

  • Prepare reports for the Finance Manager as required

  • Contribute to the external audit process

  • Ensure you are aware of any risks and controls in your workplace, and escalate reports of any risk concerns, issues or problems as soon as practicable

  • Line manage the Finance Administrator(s)

  • Deputise for the Finance Manager as required

  • Be available to have regular contact with the people we support in order that their views and aspirations are made clear and are kept to the forefront of your work.

     

     

The ideal person will have

  • A minimum of an accounting technician qualification (or equivalent) OR completed at least 50% of a chartered accountancy qualification (ACCA, ICAI,CIMA or CIPFA)

  • Minimum of 2 years’ accounting experience with at least 1 years’ experience working in a supervisory role in the Finance Department of an organisation with a turnover of at least £1,000,000

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience of

    • managing staff, to include objective setting and appraisal

    • preparing financial reports

    • preparing management accounts

    • contributing to external audit processes

  • Ability to travel independently. Positive Futures defines this as being a car driver and holder of a clean driving licence, or having access to a form of transport which will permit the applicant to meet the demands of the post.

     

     

Helpful to have

  • Knowledge of legislation and regulation relevant to organisations in the charity and social care sector

  • Experience of working in a charitable organisation’s Finance Department
