Community Outreach Worker at Sandy Row Methodist Church

                                    Starting September 1st 2017, 20 hours a week annually

Description of Role:

Main Purpose:

  1. To continue to develop contact with the local community for meeting practical and spiritual needs.
  2. To act as a coordinator and developer in the church’s Outreach Ministry.

3.               To run the afterschool club and other ministries for children and families.

Responsible to:            Revd Emily Hyland

Job description:

1)         Mid-week afterschool club for primary school age.   Provide all leadership and planning, including collaborating with volunteers and local primary school.  (Every Wednesday 1.30 pm-5.00 pm)

2)         Coordinator of “Reflect Café” drop-in and prayer    (Thursday morning 10.30 am-12.30 pm, present each week or pre-arrange absence with minister)

3)         Toddler Group leader (Thursday afternoon 12:30-4:00)

4)         Leadership in Sunday worship / Sunday school and children’s time.  This includes reports to the congregation of the on-going work and a role in encouraging and resourcing Sunday school teachers.  (a minimum 3 Sundays a month)

5)         Develop and coordinate new outreach opportunities.  This may include exploring grant sources and making applications.  Developing present church and community people into leadership or volunteering is paramount. 

6)         Connecting and collaborating with other Community leaders and groups.

7)          Visitation to local community and families.  Offering care and connection into the church          family and making referrals on to minister.

 8)        Carry out other tasks as may reasonably be requested by the Minister

It is expected that the individual will carry out the following tasks:

1)         Be self-directed

2)         Report to the church council or an appointed support and advisory group 3 times a year to oversee and plan all children’s ministry, plan for year, plan creative means to reach children and families as a collaborative effort of the whole church.

3)         Record-keeping of children’s attendance and contact details, and visits to homes (details kept in confidence and shared with minister)

Essential criteria/ Relevant qualifications:  Level 2 qualifications,  Access NI clearance, Relevant experience    Other:  IT competence
