Positive Futures is the leading charity for people with a learning disability, acquired brain injury or autistic spectrum condition and their families.

Community Connections Coordinator: To advise on, and develop, policy and guidance on developing welcoming communities for the people we support and other marginalised groups.

Salary: £22,237 pro rata

Duties include a responsibility to:

•Consult with people with a learning disability, those with acquired brain injury and people with an autistic spectrum condition, their families, staff and local community groups to identify the enablers and challenges which individuals encounter when trying to develop connections within their communities.


•Contribute to the development of a series of events / workshops for health and social care professionals, local community groups and neighbourhoods which aim to address the challenges identified and enhance the social participation and community inclusion of people with a learning disability, those with acquired brain injury and people with an autistic spectrum condition.


•Develop and disseminate a directory of community initiatives / resources within the Belfast health and social care trust (BHSCT) area.


•Facilitate the development of action plans in partnership with each individual and his/her ‘circle of support’ to allow him/her to take control of his/her short and long term goals to lead an ‘ordinary’ life in his/her community.


•Signpost and support individuals to access community based services.


•Develop a community connections policy and guidance for social workers and social care workers in Northern Ireland.

Essential Criteria includes:

•Professional Social Work qualification recognised by NISCC
•Current registration with the NISCC
•Experience of supporting people with a learning disability in a paid or voluntary basis and/or representing people who use services
•Ability to travel independently (Positive Futures defines this as being a car driver or having access to a form of transport that will allow the duties of the post to be completed in full).
