This project is funded by

Call for Artists: ‘Fair Play for Everyone! Fairtrade Education through Ethnic Arts in Schools’

Fairtrade is all about local sustainability and fair terms of trading for farmers in the developing worlds. Fairtrade Education aims to create awareness of how we as local consumers can better the lives of producers all over the world.

ArtsEkta has recently been awarded with funding by the Department for International Development (DIFID) to deliver an artistic educational programme looking at the issue of Fair Trade, in schools in Northern Ireland.

ArtsEkta is seeking for artists who can demonstrate experience in community arts and have an interest in developing a project that will explore Fair Trade by the medium of arts.

The programme involves a 3 days free training for artists delivered by a team of selected facilitators who are experts on the field of Fairtrade. This training will take place on the week of the 11th of October (dates tbc); follow by a session on ‘project realization’ to support your personal project. Then, each artist will be allocated to work in a school to deliver the project. Some of the issues covered by the training are:

  • Fair Trade from a producer’s perspective.
  • Social Responsibility: Fair Trade social realities.
  • Fair Trade in Northern Ireland.
  • Fair Trade in the NI school curricula
  • Arts Project Realization (facilitated by Arts For Everyone)

We welcome submissions from artists working in all media though and arts forms. We encourage submissions from both emerging and established artists.

Interested artists should submit a current CV, statement and a minimum of 2 images of recent work. Submissions should be preferably be emailed to Paula Guzzanti or posted to ArtsEkta (marked for the attention of the Fair Trade Project Coordinator).

The training is also opened to people who are interested in Fair Trade to a cost of £35 for participating.
