The voluntary and community sector is an important site in Northern Ireland for cross-community mixing.
In new research by the University of Ulster, over 90% of voluntary and community organisations said they provided opportunities for people to do things together and to co-operate on common tasks

In the final report, the authors say that the ability to build cross community coalitions appears to be one of the strengths of the sector in Northern Ireland.
However, in most cases this comes at a cost of failing to confront the implications of the cross-community nature of much of the sector’s work for the broader issue of sectarian divisions in society.
