Members of Down Substance Misuse and Youth Forum and Lisburn Drug and Alcohol Forum with the new directory (L - R) Linda O’Neil, David Patterson, Rita Hashemipour, John McCulloughThe first Directory of Substance Misuse Services for Down and Lisburn is now available.

It has been produced by Down Substance Misuse and Youth Forum and Lisburn Drug and Alcohol Forum. It is intended to be a comprehensive and up to date guide to substance misuse related services within Down and Lisburn.

It provides a list of organisations and agencies covering a wide range of services, from accommodation services, advice services, counselling, education, support groups, training and self help groups, among others.

The directory is updated regularly with new data sheets sent out automatically to organisations holding directories so information is kept current.

It is currently available in public libraries within the Down and Lisburn areas but now we are making copies available to organisations and groups who would find it useful such as schools, youth groups, statutory organisations, community groups and advice or information giving organisations.

Forum Coordinator, Stephanie Garvin, explains the reasons behind the production of the Directory, "Many people are not aware of existing services when they need help or information about substances. It can be difficult to piece together information about the various agencies and their services. This directory was developed so the public can access this information as quickly as possible when it is needed. The Directory gives information on all aspects of the services offered including opening hours and allows people to assess if a particular service will be likely to meet their needs. We would encourage all organisations that may be approached for information on local services to keep a copy to hand so they can refer people to the most suitable agency."
