Have you ever wondered whether your responses to surveys and consultations actually make a difference? If they’re ours, yes. Not only do they make a difference, but we seek your views specifically in order to inform our planning processes and refine our areas of work.

Our interactions with civil servants, government departments and elected representatives vary from organisation to organisation. But how well do they really understand the work of the sector as a whole? Take our quick online survey and help us get a sense of how well we're all working together.

The first survey of pay and benefits in Ireland’s community, voluntary and charitable organisations, published this week, reveals a picture of a growing third sector with a high demand for professional skills.

The legislation necessary to create a Charity Commission for Northern Ireland passed through its final stage in the Assembly on Monday 30 June. Now the Bill approved the search is on for NI first Charity Commissioners.

A unique collaboration between NICVA and nine of the Sector Skills Councils (SSCs), has produced the highly praised Northern Ireland Voluntary and Community Sector Skills Survey 2008 report, launched by Sir Reg Empey at Stormont.

Following its success over the past few years, Ready Steady Grow is running again. Backed by the Ulster University and the School for Social Entrepreneurs, Ready Steady Grow is a programme aimed at CEOs looking to strengthen entrepreneurial behaviour, develop skills and gain knowledge in the Social Sector.

The CIVICUS World Assembly - a forum for international civil society representatives to exchange ideas and experiences and to collaborate on strategies for a just society – will take place in Glasgow from 18-21 June.

Three postgraduate courses (part-time and accessed through e-learning) in social research skills. The next admission is in September 2008.

The new Charities Bill for Northern Ireland was introduced to the Assembly on 10 December 2007. This will replace the draft Charities (NI) Order 2007. This new bill has stringent requirements for the accounting records which Charities have to keep.

BURA will run an Open Regeneration Training Programme from September in Belfast, building upon 3 years delivering training in Northern Ireland.

It is estimated that up to a third of all road traffic accidents involve someone who is at work at the time. As employers you need to consider what steps you should take to ensure your employees use the road as safely as possible.

On 19 June the Assembly’s Social Development Committee will hold its weekly meeting at NICVA’s premises, 61 Duncairn Gardens, Belfast. NICVA will make a presentation to the DSD Committee on funding for the sector, as it has already done with the Finance and Personnel Committee.

Improvement Juggler from the Centre for Competitiveness has been tailored to boost productivity in the voluntary and community sector.

The Code of Good Governance for the voluntary and community sector will be officially launched on the 6 June 2008 at a special seminar in NICVA by the Developing Governance Group.

The launch on 29 April, 10.30–12.30pm at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena will debate the growing acknowledgement of the vital role that the voluntary and community sector plays in the provision of services. It will question whether the third sector has grown sufficiently to demonstrate the high standards of professionalism in its leadership, organisation and service delivery necessary to compete in a changing environment.
