Rock Against Racism was a movement in the late 70s which aimed to tackle the growing menace of racial intolerance. The seminal event in the history of RAR was the by now legendary concert in Victoria park in London where bands like the Clash and Tom Robinson Band took the stage to tell the world in no uncertain terms that music had the potential to unite people regardless of the colour of their skin.

More than 200 young people were getting ready to converge on Parliament Buildings, Stormont to mark the beginning of Community Relations Week. Some of them gathered at Stormont on 24 April in anticipation of a major youth event there on Saturday (26 April).

At a meeting with the Committee for Health, Social Services and Public Safety Committee on Monday, Citizens Advice provided compelling evidence on the increasing difficulty in accessing an NHS dentist in Northern Ireland.
The Foundation for Sport and the Arts will close to applications in March 2009 bringing to an end a fund worth £350m since 1991.

The pressure is on for communities who want a £50,000 slice of the Big Lottery Fund’s People’s Millions. Groups in Northern Ireland have just until 15th May to put in their bid to enter this year’s TV contest which has £250,000 in good cause cash to award across the region.

The injection of up to £20 million per year into the voluntary and community sector in Northern Ireland will be a wonderful boost, NICVA said on 24 April.

Community NI asked a few people earlier this week if they planned to let their feet do the talking on Walk to Work Day, 24 April 2008.

The launch on 29 April, 10.30–12.30pm at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena will debate the growing acknowledgement of the vital role that the voluntary and community sector plays in the provision of services. It will question whether the third sector has grown sufficiently to demonstrate the high standards of professionalism in its leadership, organisation and service delivery necessary to compete in a changing environment.
