The Minister said that he looked forward to Northern Ireland hosting the All Island Games which will be held in Belfast from 21 to 25 June.
He said: “I know the people of Northern Ireland will offer a warm welcome to the thousands of people, athletes, parents, coaches, volunteers and supporters who will come from all over Ireland to Belfast for the Games in June.
“The Special Olympics Games is an event which unites people from all backgrounds and one which brings tremendous excitement and challenge to over 2,000 young people with learning disabilities who will be participating in the Games. For the young athletes this is an opportunity for personal distinction that will leave them with memories to last a lifetime.
“The Games in Belfast will provide an excellent opportunity to show how capable we are of putting on a very professional event. I hope the Games will be a huge success and an event in which we can all be proud.”
