Olympic infrastructure funding

As part of a wider investment strategy for Northern Ireland, around £50m has been provisionally allocated for capital investment in elite facilities for Northern Ireland's Olympic Sports.

The funding is earmarked for distribution in support of sports infrstructure projects identified by the Sports Council as 'high priority' in terms of meeting Government objectives.

As announced by the Minister on 2nd March 2006, the first competition will seek expressions of interest for the development of an Olympic sized swimming pool.

Potential candidates should bear in mind:

  • Facilities must be suitable for training to the highest level of international competition abd be capable to host events that are likely to be attracted to Northern Ireland.
  • Facilities must be open to the public abd deliver improved access to quality, structured, sports development
  • Facilities must be capable of being delivered and operational by 2010.
  • Facilities must demonstrate operational viability and sustainability.
