Making policy work for you training

NICVA Small Logo

Policy is a key function of the voluntary and community sector. It’s an important way of helping organisations achieve their aims and objectives and meet the needs of the people and communities they represent and yet it is often perceived as complex, confusing and well ...boring! This training session aims to change all that.

NICVA will be running two “Making policy work for you” training sessions in partnership with local community networks in October.

  • 18 October – The Junction, 8 Bishop Street Derry, in partnership with North West Community Network
  • 23 October – Ards Development Bureau and Community Network, 43-45 Frances Street, Newtownards

About the courses

The sessions are fully participative using a mixture of input, discussions and questions and answer sessions with policy experts. The introduction to the day will focus on the current policy climate. There will also be input from experienced policy workers in the sector about what works and what doesn’t work.

Elaine Campbell, Head of Policy at Age Concern will be taking part in the Newtownards session, and Karin Eyben from Rural Community Network will be speaking in Derry.

Who should attend?

The training is aimed all at voluntary and community organisations. You should register to attend if your organisation has a policy role and you want to know how to do this more effectively, or if you have a limited policy capacity and want to find out about the policy development process with a view to getting more involved.

Course details

All courses run from 10.30am until 3.30pm, are free of charge and include lunch and all training materials.

The limit for each day is 20 participants.
