NICVA is quick off the mark to grill candidates for the 7 March election about their policies on social issues in Northern Ireland.
The election will be held on 7 March.
It has already arranged an Election Question Time on 12 February which all the main parties have agreed to attend. They will answer questions posed by representatives from the voluntary and community sector.
The initiative follows the publication earlier this month of NICVA’s Manifesto 2007 which challenges political parties to adopt policies that will lead to a more prosperous, fair and harmonious Northern Ireland.
“There is the distinct possibility that an election will lead to a working Assembly,” commented Lisa McElherron, who is organising the Question Time for NICVA. “So what will that mean for voluntary and community organisations and the people and communities they represent? Will important issues like the anti-poverty strategy, academic selection and the Review of Public Administration be open for discussion again and what will be the priorities for the new MLA's?”
