Teachers and youth groups across Northern Ireland are now being urged to nominate young people for both the Diana Award and the Diana Anti-Bullying Award . Visit www.diana-award.org.uk to make your nominations by Friday 24 November 2006.
The Diana Award recognises young people (aged 12-18) who inspire the lives of others. It celebrates the innate qualities - courage, compassion, commitment and selfless service to others – of young people through their contribution to and impact on their schools, families, friends or communities. The Anti-Bullying Award, which is open to both primary and secondary school aged children, is awarded to young people that have tackled bullying in their schools or communities.
Award Holders include; peer mentors, campaigners, fundraisers and young people that have overcome personal adversity. The list is endless. Both awards are non-competitive and the nomination process is very simple.
Successful nominees for this prestigious award will join the 460 plus team of Diana Award Holders across Northern Ireland. Award Holders have changed lives and the impact on them in gaining the Award is immense. “This Award is going to be with me all my life.” Award Holder.
The Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP, who was instrumental in the setting-up of the Award, says
The Diana Memorial Award celebrates the fantastic achievements of ordinary people who do extraordinary things. Through their activities they display the values that we should all aspire to – valour, compassion, imagination, teamwork, sacrifice, public spirit and private endeavour in equal measure.
Maggie Turner, Director of the Diana Award, says “The Diana Award carries status through being external, UK-wide and in memory of the late Princess, celebrating the qualities shown in her lifetime. All across Northern Ireland there are courageous, caring, compassionate young people who are an inspiration to all of us. We welcome nominations from them.”
