A PhD researcher is undertaking a doctorate in education, examining the role of Non-Government Organisations in supporting Citizenship education in NI Post-Primary schools, and needs your input.

The Researcher and scope of the research

Alan McMurray, the researcher, works for CCEA but the research he is undertaking is an independent project, and will be conducted in accordance with the BERA code of ethics.

One of the purposes of the research is to identify the ways on which schools and NGOs might develop working partnerships in Citizenship Education, thereby strengthening school/community links.

Initially, he would like to know the name of your organisation and a brief explanation of the way(s) in which you are involved in Citizenship education in Post-Primary schools.

Use of information provided

The information provided by any organisation will be used for personal research purposes and treated confidentially. Where information is published no names of people or organisations will be included. Permission will be required from any organisation/person which may wish to use this work to benefit schools/NGOs and Citizenship education.

Database

Alan would like to set up a database of all the voluntary/community groups which are actively involved in promoting Citizenship education in Post-Primary schools.

This may include work in the following areas: social inclusion, diversity, human rights, democracy, participation, social justice and equality. Your work may involve providing resources for schools on such issues or working with schools to promote Citizenship and active participation.
