Volunteers from across Northern Ireland attended a celebration on Monday 4th June at the Citizens Advice Regional Office in Belfast. The event took place during Volunteers Week, a national celebration of the UK's 28 million volunteers and a major event in the UK's volunteering calendar.

The event also gave Citizens Advice the opportunity to launch their new, recently published, volunteer promotional and recruitment materials. The aim of the leaflets and posters is to encourage volunteers that 'reflect' all of Northern Ireland's society to become involved across the Citizens Advice network at all levels.

Minister for Social Development, Margaret Ritchie, presenting Volunteer Certificates at the event said:

"Volunteering is a foundation stone of a strong civil society. It helps build friendships, bind neighbourhoods and builds bridges between communities. It meets needs, often the needs of some of the most vulnerable in our society, and it sustains many organisations who could not operate without their volunteers.

Volunteering is a strong expression of active citizenship. I believe it is vital that we recognise the hard work and commitment of volunteers and the benefits they bring to organisations and to us all.

Today, in Volunteer's Week, I'd like to thank volunteers in Citizens Advice and volunteers everywhere. I sincerely hope that the new Volunteer Packbeing launched today brings Citizens Advice more volunteers and continued success.

Derek Alcorn, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice stated

"We at Citizens Advice are delighted to be hosting this event celebrating the invaluable contribution our volunteers have made in offices across Northern Ireland. Volunteers' Week is the ideal opportunity to recognise this work and say a big 'thank you'. Without the contribution of volunteers Citizens Advice could not function in the way we do."

Volunteering at Citizens Advice

Almost 450 people volunteer their time with CABs throughout Northern Ireland. Every CAB is a registered charity and could not continue to serve local communities without the valuable contribution of volunteers who work in a range of roles, as advisors, trustees, administrators and social policy campaigners.

There are wide-ranging volunteering opportunities available throughout Northern Ireland, to find out more about becoming a volunteer please contact:
