The Deutsche Bank Spotlight Awards recognise, encourage and reward young people who have taken action to change, create or improve something in their school, club or community,

The Deutsche Bank Spotlight Awards are in their fifth year. Created to recognise, encourage and reward young people who have spoken out and taken action to change, create or improve something in their school, club or community, more than 2,500 teenagers were involved last year alone. We are offering prizes that include £1000 to individuals or groups of young people between 11 - 18 years old based in the UK.

Exam grades have nothing to do with it and neither does the size of the activity - we are interested in celebrating the achievements of all young campaigners. The type of entries we receive is vast, last year's campaigns included a project to promote environmental awareness in young people, a homelessness scheme and a campaign for a skate park.

Previous winners from Northern Ireland have included:

Violet Gourley, (County Antrim), formed M.A.D.C.A.P (Making A Difference Catholic And Protestant) a cross community girls' football team

Angela, (Belfast), wrote, designed and sourced funding for her information leaflets for young people on sex, STDs, homelessness, drugs, smoking, suicide, depression and money, in a trendy CD-sized booklet named 'sex, drugs, rock and dough'

Pennyburn Youth Club, (Derry), ran a Youth Against Racism campaign.

All the information about this year's Awards and how to apply are available from www.commonpurpose.org.uk/spotlight.

The deadline for entries is 3 February 2006. All entries receive a Certificate of Recognition.
