Landmarks across the world were wrapped in the white band of the Make Poverty History campaign, while Voluntary and Community groups in Northern Ireland join in NICVA's 'virtual wrap'

NICVA buildingMillions of people across the world will be wearing a white Make Poverty History band 1 July to show their support for the campaign to eliminate world poverty.

Global landmarks around the world also sported the famous white band.

In Johannesburg, a group of Soweto shacks wore the band to symbolise perpetuating poverty in Africa. While in Freetown, Sierra Leone, the famous cotton tree, planted by freed slaves when the nation was founded, was draped in a white band. Meanwhile, in Senegal, the slavery archway was wrapped in a white band as was the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia.

Voluntary and Community sector all wrapped up

NICVA called on the voluntary and community sector to get involved in a virtual wrap of offices, buildings and community centres. The response from the sector clearly showed that it supports the belief that world leaders must take the necessary steps to end extreme poverty.
