Independent members wanted for District Policing Partnerships

NI Policing Board Small Logo

District Policing Partnerships (DPPs) are partnerships between the local council and the community. We are looking for members of the public who can represent their community and convey local opinion on policing issues most affecting their area.

The Policing Board is in the process of reconstituting 23 out of the 26 District Policing Partnerships (DPPs). The Board is responsible for appointing new Independent Members and would wish to encourage people from the local communities to consider applying.

About District Policing Partnerships (DPPs)

District Policing Partnerships (DPPs)are partnerships between the local council and the community. They consist of local people and elected councillors, working together to shape the policing of their district. They are a unique opportunity for members of the public, like you, to have a say in the policing priorities of your area.

District Policing Partnerships are currently being reconstituted in all Council areas with the exception of Ballymena, Banbridge and Coleraine, therefore applications for these Councils will not be required.

Who can apply?

We are looking for members of the public who can represent their community and convey local opinion on policing issues most affecting their area. To be considered you must:

  • be able to show you have an interest in the local community, community safety or policing issues (this can be gained either through employment or participation in the community or voluntary sector);
  • live in, or be able to show you have a close connection with the Council area the DPP or Belfast Subgroup is in;
  • be able to commit at least 2 days per month to the work of the DPP.

In appointing new Members, the Board must ensure that the membership of each DPP as far as possible reflects the community it serves. In some areas, women and young people are under-represented on DPPs. The Board wants this to change and would encourage people of all ages and backgrounds, but particularly women and young people to consider joining their DPPs.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 30 November 2007.
