Advice NI is helping with a multi-lingual guide.
Advice NI has launched a multi-lingual online resource to help low-paid migrant workers and minority ethnic families get advice and information about tax credits.
Its latest statistics highlight that 59% of all enquiries (over 120,000) are from people seeking help to sort out their benefits and tax credit issues. The help provided ranges from assistance with completing application forms to representing clients at tribunals.
Bob Stronge, director of Advice NI, the membership organisation for independent advice centres in Northern Ireland, said:
“Migrant workers and families from minority ethnic communities across Northern Ireland may often ask for help about accessing advice and information on a range of financial support issues and we have conducted some research which found that language is often a barrier.
Advice NI is trying to address this situation by developing a dedicated multi-lingual resource. It is a straightforward on-line introduction to tax credits and will help break down any language barriers and encourage the take-up of tax credits, particularly among ethnic communities.”
The online resource has been developed with the assistance of funding from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs. It can be assessed by clicking on the tax credit section of www.adviceni.net.
