Support HUG - Helping Unite Generations - to help combat the problem of loneliness and isolation among the older generation.

Nell McAndrew with her grandfather SamHUG stands for Helping Unite Generations and is a new Help the Aged campaign to help combat the problem of loneliness and isolation among the older generation.

The campaign was launched by some of Belfast's older residents and Lord Mayor, Tom Ekin, at Belfast City Hall on 1 April to mark the start of HUG month.

A host of celebrities are supporting the campaign including Phil Collins, Joan Collins, Rodger Moore, Pete Waterman, Colin Farell and Nell McAndrew. Local broadcasters Hugo Duncan and Fiona Hurley are also helping to promote the campaign.

Support the campaign

  1. Wear the HUG badge or wrist band. Buy them at point of sale HUG boxes featuring Davina McCall and her grandmother, Pippy, at Bairds Chemists, Matalan, Alliance and Leister and Spec Savers.
  2. Host a HUG Quiz. Request a HUG Pack with questions from quiz master Chris Tarrant from 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire'.
  3. Donate to street collectors (Huggers) on 23 April.

Funds raised will go to help over 1 million UK older people who say they feel isolated in their homes. Find out how the money will be spent.
