ACEVO welcomes the government's commitment to the third sector.

Acevo (the Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations) welcomed the general election result on behalf of the third sector's leaders.

Commenting on the result, Stephen Bubb, chief executive of ACEVO, said, "We are pleased that the government is committed to reform public services and recognises the third sector's potential to transform their design and delivery.

"It is now vital that Labour delivers on its manifesto promise to consider the third sector 'on equal terms' to the public and private sectors. ACEVO's report, "Surer Funding", showed that charities' potential is being wasted by current arrangements.

"We think that charities should be brought in from the cold, and made central partners in the government's programme. We are already talking to top civil servants about how this can be implemented."

ACEVO is the professional body representing charity and not for profit sector chief executives in England and Wales, with over 2000 members. The broad not for profit sector now employs the full time equivalent of 1.5m staff, with a collective annual turnover of £46bn.
