Invitation to tender for a volunteer Transport Buddying Scheme to support older people to use public transport.

Are you currently working with older people or involved with recruiting volunteers? You may be interested in applying for funding to pilot a volunteer buddying scheme with the aim of raising the confidence of older people to make better use of public transport and support independent travel.

A transport forum has been set up as part of the healthy ageing work carried out by Belfast Health Cities under the umbrella of Investing for Health. As a member of this forum, the Department for Regional Development is willing to fund the piloting of a volunteer buddying scheme in both a rural and urban area within the Eastern Health and Social Services Board area to establish the scope and success of such a project.

The lead agency(s) for development and piloting of these schemes should:

  1. be currently working within the EHSSB area
  2. have experience of working with older people
  3. be willing to pilot the scheme between June 2006 – June 2007.

CLOSING DATE: 24 April
