Easy like Sunday morning

Slow Food Ireland's seventh annual Festival will celebrate artisan food and local producers as it tries to persuade us to banish 'fast food and fast lives'.

Slow Food Ireland hopes to entice us to take it easy at the seventh annual Convergence Festival, Dublin on 20 - 24 April.

Under the heading Inspiring Culture - Redefining Progress, the Convergence Festival will create a large cafe setting where artisan food, producers and other food stalls from all over Ireland will offer their wares.

An antidote to fast food / fast life

Slow Food was founded in Italy 1986 by Italian food critic and journalist Carlo Petrini. It is now an international movement and aims to educate people about their food by celebrating the magnificent foods that are under threat from over commercialisation and homogenisation.

"Slow Food's recognition that pleasure lies at the very heart of our food culture is one of the most profound and provocative antidotes to the fast food / fast life mania," says John McKenna of the Movement. "Slow Food is the future, and the movement generously allows us all to play our own part in shaping this future."

The campaign has become an international platform for cutting edge thinking on how we can make the transition to a sustainable way of working and living.

Slow Down Sunday

The Convergence Festival will culminate with Slow Down Sunday on Sunday 24 April - an opportunity to chill out in the Buddha lounge with the Sunday papers, a good cup of Fair Trade coffee and some tasty organic food.

There will be plenty of time to chew the fat and contemplate some of the presentations that will take place throughout the afternoon such as What Are Slow Cities? What are Fair Trade Towns? What is Responsible Tourism? and What are Eco-Villages?
