The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Award for Young People was officially launched in Belfast.
The Diana Award has been launched in Belfast and is now inviting nominations.
The award exists to celebrate those aged 12 to 18 who show courage, commitment, compassion and selfless service to others. It recognises the contribution young people make to their schools, families, friends or communities.
A special anti-bullying Diana Award has also been created.
Nigel Williams, NI Commissioner for Children and Young People, said,
PRESTIGIOUS AWARD
There are now over 11,000 Diana Award Holders across the UK. Nominations include young people who have been brave or have overcome personal obstacles as well as young carers, fundraisers, peer supporters and school council members.
Schools say that the Award is prestigious. It carries status through being external and in memory of the late Princess, celebrating the qualities shown in her lifetime. It is non-academic and provides a unique opportunity for schools to recognise the holistic qualities of their pupils.
The Award provides the opportunity for schools to celebrate and recognise young unsung heroes who give their time and expertise without seeking reward for themselves. The Diana Award has a lasting impact on the lives of those who gain it. Within schools and communities across the Northern Ireland there will be pupils who have done something wonderful and the Award organisers welcome nominations.
