Good Community relations are being established and developed thanks to the recent invitation from the Dungoyne Veterans Club, extended to members of the Newry senior citizens Falcon Club, to visit them at their Dundonald premises and then accompany them on a tour of Parliament Buildings Stormont.

After accompanying thirteen members of the Newry Senior Citizens Falcon Club and two representatives from Positive Ageing in Monaghan on the groundbreaking trip to Dundonald, Pauline Coghlan of Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency stated:

“It is rewarding to witness senior citizens leading the way in creating new friendships between Newry, Monaghan and Dundonald”

Councillor David Drysdale UUP (Deputy Mayor of Castlereagh Borough Council) welcomed the members of the Falcon club, saying

“I am delighted to see the progress being made in building and developing relationships between both communities, since devolved government was restored to Northern Ireland”

Members of the Dungoyne Club served tea and refreshments to their guests while they discussed a range of issues facing both clubs, during these discussions the local community media group ‘The Cellars’ made a film recording of the unique event.

Iris Robinson MP MLA sponsored the tour of Parliament Buildings, which included a visit to the Grand Hall, the Senate Chambers, and the Assembly Chambers followed by lunch in the visitor’s dining room.

Angela Donnelly Secretary of The Falcon Club explained

“This was a great opportunity for us to develop cross community relations and we are very grateful to The Dungoyne veterans club for inviting us to visit Stormont with them.”

The Falcon Club hope to be able to extend a return invitation to bring the members of the Dungoyne Veterans Club to Newry early next year.
