Funding will be targeted at 20 organisations working in the fields of social & community needs, and education and training. Information roadshows are being held across NI during early June.
Lloyds TSB Foundation, one of Northern Ireland’s main supporters of small charities and community organisations, has launched new funding which aims to address the sector’s calls for more stability and developmental support.
The ‘Creating Change’ grant programme will offer up to six years of funding to charities working for disadvantaged people and communities. This is the first time an independent funding body in Northern Ireland has offered such widespread long term funding to the voluntary and community sector.
The Foundation will specifically target charities working in the fields of social and community needs, and education and training.
Up to £2 million will be made available to up to twenty organisations with a successful track record in addressing social disadvantage. A maximum of £100,000 per charity will be awarded, with the grant tapering over a six year period.
At the launch, Denis Wilson, Chairman of Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland, explained the organisation’s decision to launch the new funding programme:
"The Foundation is responding to the sector’s needs. Many small charities and community groups have found life quite difficult with the reduction in European funding in recent years. Often short term funding is insufficient if organisations are to develop strategically and work towards sustainability. We hope that our new programme will address these issues."
