Children in Northern Ireland (CiNI) is conducting a selection process for voluntary, community and minority ethnic representatives for the Children and Young People's Committees. Appointments will be for three years (2005 - 2008).
Selection is taking place on behalf of the four Chairs of the Children and Young People's Committees.
All existing members from representative organisations are eligible to apply.
About the Committees
The Children and Young Peoples Committees are part of the Children's Services Planning process which is a process for bringing people together to plan services for children, across agencies and groups.
The aim is to meet the needs of children and young people who are vulnerable, so that they can reach their full potential and be socially included members of the community, as children and as adults.
Children's Services Planning is managed by a partnership called the Children and Young People's Committee, which is made up of statutory, voluntary, community and minority ethnic groups. Work is carried out in a number of working groups, which are made up of people across agencies and types of organisations who have knowledge and experience of the needs of vulnerable children. This includes the young people themselves, their parents, carers and communities.
There are four Children and Young People's Committees, which are chaired by the Director of each Health and Social Services Board area. Each committee meets at least four times a year plus additional support and development days. These support and development days are provided by Children in Northern Ireland to support the voluntary, community and minority ethnic representatives involved across the four Boards.
How to apply
All applicants will be considered by a panel including Children's Service Planners and representatives from the voluntary, community and minority ethnic sectors. The Chairs of the Children and Young Peoples Committees have requested that all successful nominees make a commitment to attend committee meetings and support meetings on a regular basis.
All successful appointments will last for the three year planning cycle (2005 - 2008) with voluntary and community nominations limited to two terms - six years in total.
Nominees will contribute expertise from their knowledge of working with vulnerable children in this planning forum and by doing so they will raise their organisations profile in a leading children's planning arena.
