How well do you spell?

Improve your spelling and raise money for Mencap and your child's school.

It’s a new term and Mencap’s Spellathon challenge is back to test the spelling abilities of school children of all ages in Northern Ireland.

Spellathon is a sponsored spelling test drawn up by Mencap and the Oxford University Press. It is designed to be fun for pupils, simple for teachers to organise and a natural tie in to the curriculum.

The curriculum focused event encourages pupils to raise money for each word they spell correctly. A colourful teacher's pack includes an easy to follow lesson plan and a variety of word lists for pupils which are tailored to all abilities.

Schools keep 25% of the funds raised and trophies are available for the top fundraising schools in each of the five education board areas. All participating schools will receive a special Spellathon certificate.

Mencap is encouraging schools to take part and raise funds for Mencap’s local projects whichsupport children and adults with a learning disability.

The money raised will not only support local projects, but pupils will have a better understanding of what it means to have a learning disability.

It really is as simple as A,B,C!
