Raising funds for hearts in crisis

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) challenges women in Northern Ireland to join the fight against heart disease and support 2005 Help a Heart Week.

The British Heart Foundation (BHF) is calling on mums, grandmothers, daughters, sisters and women all over Northern Ireland to join the fight against heart disease and support 2005 Help a Heart Week from 4 - 12 June.

Help a Heart Week is the BHF's biggest annual fundraising campaign.

The reality

  1. Heart and circulatory disease will kill over 2400 women during Help a Heart Week.
  2. One in three women are killed by heart and circulatory disease.
  3. Coronary heart disease claims the lives of four times more women than breast cancer.
  4. Nearly 1.2 million women in the UK are living with the daily burden of heart disease.

The money raised will fund pioneering research into the causes and treatment of heart disease.

The charity needs to spend £190 every two minutes of every day on live saving heart research to enable us to keep thousands of vulnerable hearts beating. But we can't do it without the support of our dedicated volunteers.

How to help

Opportunities include getting together a group of family, friends or colleagues to make a team for a fundraising collection in the local area, taking part in an organised local collection or throwing a local fundraising event.

The BHF needs your help urgently - if anyone would like to help us keep hearts beating and save lives, as well as meet new friends, then phone Gail McKee on Icon of a telephone 028 4483 2007 for an informal chat or email her at Icon of an envelope mckeeg@bhf.org.uk
