Grey Matters, a group made up of representatives from the Belfast East Seniors Forum and the South Belfast and Castlereagh Lifestyle Forums gathered in the Linenhall Library last Monday to receive certificates for the completion of a series of Lobbying Workshops.

A series of workshops focusing on lobbying and advocacy skills and aimed at older people, took place between October and June. The workshops were organised by the Workers Educational Association as part of the Changing Ageing Partnership Training programme.

This programme aims to develop an older person's skills and confidence and in so doing, enable their voice to be heard on issues that affect them.

During the workshops individuals learnt how to plan and prepare for meetings with decision makers and how to make formal presentations to decision makers. Grey Matters participation in the workshops has had very positive outcomes both on a personal basis and on a group basis.

Gerry Potts, a member of the Castlereagh Lifestyle Forum said

"I thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and feel I can assert myself now."
