New website launched by the Chinese Welfare Association.

Chinese Dragon The Chinese Welfare Association (CWA) has launched a new website and blessed it with a traditional Chinese unicorn and lion dance, performed by the Chinese Unicorn and Lion Dance Association Northern Ireland.

The website, www.cwa-ni.org , has been supported by the Community Relations Council with three years of funding.

Duncan Morrow, Chief Executive of the Community Relations Council, welcomed the site as a way for Northern Ireland to connect with the Chinese community.

He said such small steps would help Northern Ireland to move towards a shared future that recognised diversity rather than only two communities. New Chinese Dragon

He continued, “We recognise that minority and ethnic communities have experienced difficulties here in the last year. The Community Relations Council hopes to do whatever it can to stop attacks and develop a more open culture in Northern Ireland ”.

Mr Morrow concluded by saying that events such as the CWA site launch could help create a more open minded approach to life here by bringing the community in from the edge to the centre of conversation.

An information pack was also launched at the event giving details of the language, diet, festivals and religion of the Chinese Community in Northern Ireland .
