With an eye to the assembly election on November 26, a Women’s Manifesto has been launched by the Equality Commission, the Women’s Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and the Women’s Policy Group.
The manifesto represents a set of demands on key gender equality areas that need to be addressed by an incoming assembly: economic independence, sustaining the women’s sector, women and decision making, sexual and reproductive health care, and domestic violence.
Many women’s, community and other voluntary groups have endorsed the manifesto, which is being targeted at political parties and candidates during the election period. For those who might want to ask their candidates a few questions over the coming weeks, an e-version of the manifesto will be available on the Equality Commission website at www.equalityni.org .
