The Northern Ireland Census Access website gives electronic access the 2001 Census information. It includes summary statistics as well as indepth detail on the 5022 Census Output Areas.

NISRA has launched the NICA website www.nicensus2001.gov.uk which provides electronic access to the vast majority of 2001 Census results.

NISRA believe the flexibility and functionality of the site will complement their main site www.nisra.gov.uk and is expected to appeal to a much wider audience since it is so easy to use.

There are two main elements to the website, the NI Census Browser and the NI Census Analyser.

The NI Census Browser

The NI Census Browser enables the user to obtain summary statistics in the form of seven different profiles covering the following themes: Housing and Transport, Health and Care, Employment, Education, Economic Activity, Demography and Cultural. Each of the profiles can be generated for the full range of geographical regions ranging from Northern Ireland as a whole down to each of the 5022 Census Output Areas.

NI Census Analyser

In contrast, the Analyser enables users to retrieve the full range of detailed 2001 Census results that NISRA has released to date. This section of the website uses a variety of flexible options for selecting a table including drop down lists as well as the facility to search by table number and table topic. Drop down lists can also be used to select a geographical area and users can exploit the supporting mapping function to highlight particular areas of interest. Those who are unsure of the specific location of an area on the map can use a postcode or name of area search to help them locate it.
