High flying University of Ulster students are to travel to Washington DC, USA for a six month leadership development and professional internship programme.
Six UU students have secured a place with the Washington-Ireland Program (WIP). They will begin intern posts at places like the US House of Representatives and media company, Richfield Productions.
The WIP encourages personal and professional development for undergraduates from Ireland by organising placements and training in Washington DC.
The successful students were selected from 200 applicants from universities in the UK and Ireland. They include Kevin McNamee (reading English and History), Adrian Margey, Paula Gunn and Claire McAleer (Communication Advertising and Marketing) and Joellen Perry and Gareth Thompson (Law and Government).
Professor Richard Barnett, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Ulster praised the accomplishments of the students:
"The Washington-Ireland Program provides a unique opportunity for our students to develop and learn through an inspiring experience. The skills and knowledge gained from their time in the USA will be reinvested in our community when the students return. We wish the students every success in their leadership journey and as ambassadors for the University."
