The launch on 29 April, 10.30–12.30pm at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena will debate the growing acknowledgement of the vital role that the voluntary and community sector plays in the provision of services. It will question whether the third sector has grown sufficiently to demonstrate the high standards of professionalism in its leadership, organisation and service delivery necessary to compete in a changing environment.

ONUS (NI) is the social economy business of Women’s Aid in Antrim, Ballymena, Carrickfergus, Larne and Newtownabbey and is being launched on 29 April at the Ecos Centre, Ballymena. It aims to create future sustainability for the charity, thus securing vital services for women, children and young people subjected to domestic violence. This will be achieved by ONUS (NI) gift aiding any profit generated to Women’s Aid ABCLN.

There are several strands in the ONUS strategic plan including the leasing/letting of accommodation within the Naomi Centre to like minded organisations with the aim of creating a ‘centre of excellence’ for women, children and young people in a central, accessible and neutral venue.

A training strategy has been established to respond to the growing demand within the professional, business and voluntary sectors and individuals who are working to support victims of domestic violence and abuse.

ONUS provides a range of training programmes to enable individuals to develop a knowledge and skills base in dealing with domestic violence. In-house programmes are also developed and tailored to address organisations specific needs, including Domestic Violence Workplace policy and practice development.
