The conference, organised by Dungannon based organisation, S.T.E.P. took on a European perspective and included a number of high profile keynote speakers including Dr Brandon Hamber INCORE, Agnieszka Martynowicz from the Institute for Conflict Research and Carol Moore, local film director and producer. Delegates heard about the ECAS (European Citizen Access Project) project “One-stop-mobility-shop” of which STEP is a partner along with organisations from London, Paris and Barka in Poland. A number of seminars and workshops took place during the day and a half conference to bring to light some key issues about Integration delegates encounter in their daily work and research.

Roisin Donaghy, Marketing Manager at S.T.E.P. continues:

“The conference was geared towards answering the questions of how practice in integration is facilitated through current policy and what changes may be required in existing policy to make the integration process more effective. By examination of the views of key speakers and participation by conference delegates during the conference STEP are hoping to establish some proactive ideas and methods of dealing with the issues that hinder the integration process, particularly surrounding Migrant Workers.”

Delegates were treated to various entertainment pieces throughout the conference such as a Mini-International Fair where they sampled cuisine from East Timor, the Czech Republic, Poland and Lithuania and an Interactive Music Experience with the multi-cultural music group “Beyond Skin”. A full conference report will be published covering the key issues raised by delegates and the points made by the keynote speakers over the two days. It is hoped that this report will be launched in December/January and will provide an insightful look into the Integration concept.
