The Migrant Worker Support Network (MWSN), part of the Dungannon based organisation, S.T.E.P., has launched its member website. Key speakers at the launch event were Helen Lewis, INCORE; Helen Lowry, Migrants Right Center Ireland (MRCI) and Padraic Quirk, Atlantic Philanthropies.
The network was set up in May 2006 as a support mechanism for the many organisations across Northern Ireland dealing with issues surrounding Migrant Workers. As an information exchange platform, members have been able to submit information about events, receive information about new legislations, have their questions answered by other members through weekly e-mail alerts and quarterly newsletters. There are currently approximately 120 members of the network ranging from individuals within statutory agencies to voluntary community groups.
All subscribing members will now be able to access a “members only” section of the www.mwsn.org which includes features such as Best Practice Guidelines, Policy, Research and Publications and a Forum which will allow members to partake in discussions surrounding particular issues or topics. The website will act as live support for the members with the site and content managed and updated by S.T.E.P.’s Network and Development Officer, Tracey Kane.
