The Irish based charity Children in Crossfire is pleased to announce that His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at a 2-day conference in Derry/Londonderry hosted by the organisation.

His Holiness Dalai Lama

His Holiness’ commitment to the promotion of human values such as compassion, forgiveness and tolerance has made him an ideal choice to lead the high profile platform of speakers at this event to celebrate Children in Crossfire’s tenth anniversary.

Richard Moore, founder and director of Children in Crossfire speaks about the great honour it is to have the Dalai Lama in Derry.

He said,

"We are absolutely honoured that His Holiness has accepted our invitation to be the keynote speaker at this two day conference. This event organised in association with Derry City Council will give delegates from all relevant sectors an opportunity to explore issues around the rights of children, gender inequality and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

About Children in Crossfire

Children in Crossfire is an Irish based charity committed to the needs of children caught in conflict and poverty throughout the world. The aim of this conference is to raise awareness of children’s rights both locally and globally.

"There will be a dynamic range of speakers alongside the Dalai Lama including Jane Olson of Human Rights Watch, veteran journalist Fergal Keane and Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Dermot Ahern. This will be an event not to be missed for anyone who has an interest in children’s welfare.

"The work of Children in Crossfire emerged out of the troubles here in Northern Ireland. I was blinded when I was 10 years old after being hit by a rubber bullet when I was walking home from school. I have first hand experience of what it is like to have your whole life changed or affected by conflict. In the last 10 years Children in Crossfire has been working to improve the lives of young people right across the world. We have seen the difference that support and understanding can make. We have been involved in projects in places like Ethiopia, Kenya and we are currently helping to build a school for a village in Tanzania.

"This conference seeks to put the issues of children at the forefront of people’s minds through the words of His Holiness, our guest speakers and the workshop facilitators. This is a great event for Derry and Ireland and we hope children all over the world will benefit from it."
