Business in the Community’s Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner named engineering firm FG Wilson as Northern Ireland’s most socially responsible business.
The company, which has facilities at Larne, Monkstown in Newtownabbey and Springvale in West Belfast, lifted the prestigious Business in the Community 'Company of the Year Award' at an event in Belfast City Hall.
The firm claimed the accolade for the significant investment it makes in the communities in which it operates. FG Wilson Managing Director, Dr Mark Sweeney, says corporate social responsibility is central to the company’s ethos.
We are committed to investing time and resources to support initiatives that help boost the local economy, help enhance local education provision, contribute to the environment and continually promote excellence with regard to practice in the workplace.
“Our employees deserve great praise for their enthusiasm in contributing to local charities and community initiatives and this honour is a fitting recognition of their efforts,” Dr Mark Sweeney adds.
Judges of the awards said of FG Wilson: “The company has displayed outstanding leadership in its commitment to corporate social responsibility at the highest levels, involving staff and employees in embracing the four pillars of responsible practice.
“This has included: employees at all its plants supporting local community organisations and schools through volunteering; operating leading-edge environmental standards and achieving wide-spread acclaim for its performance in waste reduction and emissions; and demonstrating workplace excellence in its commitment to diversity and encouraging employee development through volunteering.”

It is also one of Northern Ireland’s largest employers employing over 3,000 people at the company’s facilities in Larne, Springvale (Belfast) and Monkstown
