Culture Minister Maria Eagle MP has had discussions on 8 November 2006 with the Ulster-Scots Agency.

scottish dancerThe discussion between Minister Maria Eagle MP the Ulster Scots Agency Chairman, Mark Thompson, and Chief Executive, George Patton, was arranged to take forward the Government’s commitment in the St Andrews Agreement to enhance and develop Ulster-Scots language, heritage and culture.

Commenting afterwards the Minister said: “The Government is fully committed to ensuring that any measures and initiatives to be introduced meet the needs of the Ulster-Scots community.

“In taking forward this commitment, my officials have already asked the Ulster-Scots Agency to work up a detailed package of key measures where they feel real progress can be made in enhancing and developing the Ulster-Scots language, heritage and culture.”


Mark Thompson said: “I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to discuss with the Minister issues of great concern to the Ulster-Scots community. The outcome was very positive.

“I have agreed with the Minister that the Ulster-Scots Agency will develop a package of measures and supporting materials to take forward the commitment in the St Andrews Agreement. I will present these to the Department by the end of November.”
