Charity Choice has suspended registration of Northern Ireland charities because it cannot confirm charitable status. A meeting is being held shortly to review the policy.

Charity Choice has suspended registration of NI Charities as it cannot easily confirm charitable status of Northern Ireland organisations.

NICVA recently promoted Charity Choice at the lunchtime seminar on Online Fundraising for Free based on correspondence with the organisation last year.

In the meantime Charity Choice, which provides a free online service for receiving credit/debit card donations, has changed its position and is no longer accepting Northern Ireland charities on the scheme. The scheme funded by Co-operative Bank enables charities to benefit from significant redutions in the cost of receiving online donations.

NICVA has been in correspondence with Charity Choice to suggest that a copy of the HMRC letter confirming charity status of an organisations could be requested to enable registration of NI Charities and asking them to reconsider the decision not to register NI Charities.

It is NICVA's understanding that a meeting is taking place soon to review the current policy.
