The Executive Committee of the Volunteer Development Agency is seeking to appoint a new Chairperson.
The Agency is recognised as an important advocate and resource for volunteering. The participation of individuals in community life through volunteering is an important social dynamic and is recognised as a key indicator in measuring the health of any community.
Promoting the value of volunteering, improving understanding of its contribution, supporting organisations to enhance the experience and effectiveness of volunteers, and improving access to opportunities are all key strands of the Agency's work. The organisation currently has a staff complement of 28 with an operating budget of over £1 million. The Agency is also responsible for administering (on behalf of two government departments) annual grant funding of some £2.4 million. The policy environment makes this a challenging time for the voluntary and community sector. The organisation is keen to maximise current and future opportunities to increase recognition for both volunteering and the work of the Volunteer Development Agency.
We therefore invite applications for the role of Chairperson from individuals with proven leadership capacity that recognise the importance of volunteering and can enhance the profile and influence of the organisation.
This is a voluntary position. The appointment of Chairperson is for three years initially with the possibility of a second three-year term. The role requires an estimated commitment of one to two days a month. Expenses are met and office / secretarial support is available.
