International Volunteer Day is celebrated every year on 5 December. This year the Volunteer Development Agency will be celebrating the day by promoting a new resource called Volunteer - Play Your Part, which is now available in five languages.

Volunteer Stella Tsang

Volunteer Stella Tsang calling for volunteers this International Volunteer Day.

This publication aims to encourage nationals of other countries, who have settled in Northern Ireland, to get involved in their local communities through volunteering. Volunteer - Play Your Part, produced in partnership with the Volunteer Development Agency and the Equality Commission is available in Polish, Portuguese, Lithuanian, Cantonese and Urdu and is a simple guide about how to get involved in volunteering.

Wendy Osborne OBE, Director of the Volunteer Development Agency said:

We are delighted Play Your Part is now available in other languages. It will help encourage those people of other nationalities who live in Northern Ireland to think about volunteering. Volunteering not only benefits those people or the community which you are helping but also benefits the individual themselves. Volunteering is a great way to meet people and make new friends whilst connecting with your local community. On International Volunteer Day we encourage individuals from all countries to think volunteering!"

Volunteer - Play Your Part can be downloaded from www.volunteering-ni.org or you can pick up a copy at your local volunteer centre.

If you would like to volunteer you can visit your local volunteer centre or search for an opportunity at www.volunteernow.co.uk
