Advice NI has successfully reached the finals of the National eWell-Being Awards with their Advice and Guidance E-Quals programme - a blended learning training programme that accredits advisers to deliver energy advice.

Advice NI e-Quals mouseAdvice and Guidance E-Quals is one of the final three entrants in the race to win the category award for Low Carbon and Environmental Efficiency.

The Awards, supported by BT and Brother, are designed to promote the tangible benefits that ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) can bring to society, the economy and to the environment.

Advice and Guidance E-Quals empowers 20 individuals from disadvantaged communities to become local champions in informing and advising people on becoming more energy efficient, how to cope with increasing fuel prices and change behaviours. The project uses moodle.org as its Virtual Learning Environment and supports learners via face to face tutorials and workshops using laptops. Choosing an open source product helps ensure the long term sustainability of the project.

Over 135 entries were received this year and the judges had a tough job to whittle them down to the 19 finalists that remain in the running. The lucky winners will be announced at a gala dinner to be held at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London on Wednesday 30 April.

"We would like to congratulate Advice NI on making it to the final of the 2008 National eWell-Being Awards," said Richard Craven of SustainIT. "We were overwhelmed by the quality of entries received this year and competition has been very strong."

Bob Stronge, Director of Advice NI commented,

"Advice NI is delighted to be short listed for this prestigious award. Development of this e-learning project has saved participants travelling 4,529 miles equating to 203 hours travel time and £1,811.60. It has helped reduce the carbon footprint and as more people get involved it will have a more significant impact on environmental efficiency."

Since their launch in 2002 by SustainIT, an initiative of the UK Centre for Economic and Environmental Development (UK CEED), the Awards have attracted over 600 high quality entries from a diverse range of organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors.
